The non-profit company Film- und Medienfestival gGmbH (FMF) acts on behalf of the company’s associates: The City of Stuttgart, Wirtschaftsförderung Region Stuttgart, and the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg (representing the State of Baden-Württemberg). Within this framework, FMF has built and continuously developed a broad and distinguished portfolio of events over the years.

Among these is the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS). With approximately 70,000 visitors annually, the ITFS ranks among Europe’s most significant festivals for animation art and film culture. Since its founding in 1982, ITFS has evolved into a key meeting point for the international industry, emerging creative talent, and a diverse regional audience. Through competitions, curated film programmes, workshops, panels, and professional networking formats, ITFS transforms Stuttgart into a hub of animation each year for one week – showcasing the full spectrum of animated storytelling, from artistic short and feature-length films to innovative games.

Held in parallel with ITFS are the Animation Production Days (APD), Germany’s leading co-production and financing market for animation. The APD are organised by FMF in cooperation with FMX – Film & Media Exchange, Europe’s most important conference for the latest in animation, visual effects and digital media. The combination of film festival, industry conference, and financing market within the framework of the Stuttgart Animated Week attracts up to 4,000 accredited professionals to the city each year, transforming Stuttgart into a vibrant centre for the development and financing of animation projects.
