The Stuttgart Media University (HdM) is a state university of applied sciences located in Stuttgart-Vaihingen. The Audiovisual Media program offers a wide range of study fields such as computer animation, film/VFX, sound production, interactive media & games, as well as television and event media, covering a broad spectrum of creative and technical disciplines.

Graduates of the Stuttgart Media University complete their studies as creative media engineers, earning an academic degree as either a Bachelor of Engineering or a Master of Science. The subject of games, interactive visualisations (VR/AR, 360°) is represented at the HdM by the „Institute for Games“, which offers training at both Bachelor‘s and Master‘s level. The Visual Media Lab (VMLab) at the Hochschule der Medien investigates various areas of visual competence, for example through new colour spaces, HDR and higher frame rates.

New technologies and algorithms in the fields of computer graphics and visualisation, image and sound processing of audiovisual media are taught
and researched by the HdM. Visual analytics methods, image coding methods and the development of new colour standards for cinema, television and other image output devices are current research topics alongside numerical methods for calculating virtual fluids and textiles, as well as investigations into the human-machine interface and the accessibility of media. Possible applications of high-performance computing in the field of media production are being investigated by the Hochschule der Medien in cooperation with the Media Solution Center Baden-Württemberg (MSC-bw).
