The Hochschule der Medien is a state university for applied sciences in Stuttgart-Vaihingen. The degree program in audiovisual media offers training in computer animation, film/VFX, sound production, interactive media and games, and television and event media. Students of the Hochschule der Medien graduate as creative media engineers with a bachelor or master of engineering. Both bachelor and master-level course programs in games, interactive visualizations – VR, AR, 360° – are offered through the HdM’s Institute for Games. The univerity’s newly established Visual Media Lab (VMLab) investigates various areas of visual competence, e.g., through new color spaces, HDR, and higher frame rates. In the Digital Media college, a joint doctoral program in cooperation with the universities of Stuttgart and Tübingen, 20 doctoral projects are developing new technologies and algorithms in the areas of computer graphics and visualization, image and sound processing, i.e., visual effects and media technology. Other research topics include visual analytics methods, processes for image encoding, and development of new color standards for cinema, television, and other imagegenerating devices. In addition to numerical processes to calculate virtual fluids and textiles, the operatorsystem interface and barrier-free media are also being investigated. Application possibilities for high-performance computing in media productions are being investigated at the Hochschule der Medien in cooperation with the Media Solution Center Baden-Württemberg (MSC-bw).
