ITFS

Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film. The global centre of animated film: the festival presents the entire spectrum of current animation filmmaking with interfaces to visual effects, architecture, art, design, music and games.

Established in 1982, the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film Stuttgart (ITFS) is one of the world‘s most important events in the field of animated film in all its facets, with interfaces to visual effects, architecture,
art, design, music, science, games, et al. ITFS offers every year in spring on six days directors, production and distribution companies, talents, and all other industry representatives from the fields of animation and games a platform to showcase their films, interactive and transmedia works as well as VR and AR projects to an interested broad audience and numerous representatives of the industry. At the heart of the festival are the competitions and film programmes.
Up to a total of 90,000 EUR in prize money will be awarded by international juries of experts. The ITFS Open Air, centrally located on Stuttgart‘ s Schlossplatz, is one of the audience highlights.
After the years 2020 and 2021, in which the ITFS was held exclusively online, it was able to take place on site again in 2022 for the first time in a hybrid version. In addition to the media library, the ITFS VR Hub was a highlight of the hybrid concept – a digital multi-user experience. In 2023, under the motto „Animation connects!“, the ITFS invites you to the city centre cinemas, the Schlossplatz and other locations for the 30th edition from 25 to 30 April 2023 to celebrate the world of animation and animated film together on site in direct encounters and direct exchange. The 30th ITFS will bridge the gap between the past, the present and the future. It offers retrospectives and a tribute as well as the latest films in the various competition categories and projects that are still in the planning stage. The ITFS is organized by the Stuttgart-based Film- und
Medienfestival gGmbH (FMF).
