The Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) has been one of the most important festivals for artistic animated film since its founding in 1982 and is an Oscar-qualifying film festival.
It showcases the latest animated short and feature films across five competitions: International Competition, Student Competition, Tricks for Kids, Trickstar Nature, and AniMovie, alongside additional industry-specific awards. Visitors can also explore the nominated games for the Animated Games Award Germany, as well as VR and games installations, in the GameZone.
The free open-air programme on Schlossplatz offers a diverse audience a selection of family-friendly and socially relevant films, along with activities for families and local visitors.
ITFS sees itself as a host for filmmakers from around the world, providing a platform for networking, exchange, and knowledge transfer. Supporting emerging talent is just as central to the festival’s mission as fostering discussions on animation aesthetics, techniques, and content.
The festival is organised by Film- und Medienfestival gGmbH on behalf of its shareholders – the City of Stuttgart, the Stuttgart Regional Economic Development Agency (WRS), and the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg (on behalf of the State of Baden-Württemberg).
