Trossingen University of Music’s music design program, directed by Prof. Florian Käppler, was established in 2010 to respond to the evolving challenges of the music and media markets. The program’s unique combination of music and media technology and conceptual training prepares students for a variety of music-related professions in the new media. The curriculum places particular emphasis on scoring music for animated films, games, and VR applications. The program is practice-oriented and project-based. Music, sound, and audio are always perceived as one part of the overall product in its entirety. An interdisciplinary cooperation with the faculty of digital media at Furtwangen University provides students with a stimulating, creative, and immensely inspiring environment. Partnerships with Nanyang University in Singapore, Tongji University in Shanghai, the Filmakademie Baden-Württemburg in Ludwigsburg, and ZKM in Karlsruhe and its affiliated Landeszentrum für Musik-Design-Performance guarantee a study course that meets the highest international standards. An excellent network of state institutions and industry opens up manifold opportunities for specialization. Notable student projects include an interactive augmented audio guide for the Björk exhibition at the MoMA, sound concepts for the German Pavilion at the EXPO 2022 in Dubai, composing sound tracks for award-winning cartoons such as “Princess,” and setting the AMCRS showreel to music in 2018.
