The Music Design program at the Trossingen State University of Music was developed in 2010 under the direction of Prof. Florian Clemens Käppler to meet the challenges of the music and media markets.
With its unique combination of artistic-musical and media-technological-conceptual training, it prepares students for careers in the field of digital media, including the scoring of animated films, games, and VR applications. The cross-
institutional collaboration with the Faculty of Digital Media at Furtwangen University creates an inspiring environment that bridges high technology and artistic discourse. Networking with government institutions and industry opens up a wide range of specialization opportunities.
The students worked on the interactive augmented audio guide for the Björk exhibition at MoMA, designed the sound concept for the German Pavilion at EXPO 2022 in Dubai, explored UI/UX scenarios for Deutsche Telekom’s smart speaker, and composed soundtracks for international animated and feature films.
In cooperation with the University and HTWG Konstanz, they regularly create sound designs for exhibitions at the “Turm zur Katz.” Most recently, they also created sound installations for “Museum of a Future Past” and “Nature Unlimited.”
Starting in October 2026, the new part-time Master’s program in Audio
Experience Design will begin: Instead of working with predefined content,
students will bring their own sound projects and develop them further through project supervision and workshops. With a maximum of ten on-campus days per semester, the program combines flexibility with an interdisciplinary environment
where sound, space, and technology converge.
