The Music Design degree programme at the Trossingen University of Music was developed in 2010 under the direction of Prof. Florian Clemens Käppler to meet
the ever-changing challenges of the music and media market. 

With its unique combination of artistic-musical and media-technological-conceptual training, it prepares students for various musical fields of activity in the area of digital media. 

The sountrack of animated films, games and VR applications also plays an important role in this endeavour. The interdisciplinary cooperation with the Faculty of Digital Media at Furtwangen University of Applied Sciences creates a very inspiring environment for the students, interweaving aspects of high technology and artistic discourse. The good networking with state institutions and the industry open up a wide range of opportunities for specialisation.

The students have worked on the interactive augmented audio guide for the Björk exhibition at MoMA, they designed the sound concept for the German Pavilion at the World Expo 2022 in Dubai, developed and researched UI/UX scenarios for Deutsche Telekom‘s Smartspeaker and composed soundtracks for international animated and feature films. As part of the collaboration with the University and the HTWG Konstanz, music design students regularly set exhibitions in the “Turm zur Katz” to music.

Since 2023, the Master‘s programme „Artificial Intelligence in Music“ offers the new profile Music Design, which is the only music degree programme in Germany to be funded as part of the federal-state initiative „Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education“.
