German Animation Screenplay Award ITFS 2026 – The Nominees

With the German Animation Screenplay Award, the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (May 5-10, 2026) honours authors for high quality screenplays for an animated feature-length film. The prize for the best screenplay for an animated feature film comes with prize money of 2,500 €, sponsored by the Animation Media Creators Region Stuttgart (AMCRS). Furthermore the ITFS presents the award for the German screenplay with the biggest international market potential, endowed with 2,500 € donated by Sola Media. The aim of the German Animation Screenplay Award is to recognise the central role of screenwriters in the creation of outstanding films and to create incentives to develop extraordinary stories for animated film. Both awards will be presented on Thursday, May 7 at 19:00 CET as part of the AniX Awards at the Festival Centre / Eugen-Bolz-Saal, where the Trickstar Business Award for the most innovative business model will also be presented.

The nominated screenplays are:

The jury consists of Matthias Drescher, Sophia Bierend, Solveig Langeland, Jørn Precht and Silke Wilfinger.

Jørn Precht, Professor of Storytelling and Computer Animation at Stuttgart Media University, will present this year’s nominees for the German Animation Screenplay Award. The winning screenplay, “The Last Whale Singer,” which has already been adapted into a film, will also be presented by writer and director Reza Memari as well as producer Maite Woköck. 42. Filmfest München

Two animated projects involving AMCRS members will celebrate their world premieres this coming weekend at the 42. Filmfest München (June 27 to July 6, 2025) – and both are in the running for an award.

“TAFITI – ACROSS THE DESERT” and “PUMUCKL’S NEW ADVENTURES” are screening in the “CineKindl” competition and have been nominated for Best Film in this children’s and youth film section.

The animated children’s film “TAFITI – ACROSS THE DESERT” (directed by Nina Wels) was created with the participation of Red Parrot Studios. World sales are handled by Sola Media. The premiere will take place on Saturday, June 28. All information and cre dits

The animation for the goblin Pumuckl in the TV series “PUMUCKL’S NEW ADVENTURES” (directed by Marcus H. Rosenmüller) – with selected episodes from season 2 nominated – was created by Studio Soi. The premiere is scheduled for Sunday, June 29. All information and credits

The Filmfest München is the second-largest film festival in Germany, after the Berlinale.
