Naked Web – exhibition by Students of the Merz Akademie

“Baroque“ by Merz Akademie student Vanessa Schmidt

In the dawn of the World Wide Web – before the separation of content and style, before CSS, in the age of pure HTML – webmasters worked with only a handful of <tags> to shape their pages.

Creating layouts, visuals and functionality was a challenge, yet not impossible. With the humble < table >, the elegant < hr >, the interactive < input type=“radio” > and < input type=“checkbox” >, and of course the legendary clear.gif, every trick became an act of invention. Even border=“0” or border=“100” carried a message.

The works in this exhibition by students of the Merz Akademie, curated by Olia Lialina, are built from these same elements – to make them shine once more, and never be forgotten.

Job at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts

Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) is the largest educational institution in the six cantons of Central Switzerland. Within the Department of Design Film Art, the Bachelor Video program teaches the essential aspects of cinematic design, with a particular focus on the diverse forms and methods of documentary filmmaking. Over the course of their studies, students acquire expertise in the entire production process: from developing an idea and conducting research, to preparing a shooting script, carrying out filming, editing, and finally distributing their films. The program combines hands-on technical training, creative practice, and theoretical knowledge. Students apply their learning in their own short film projects, where they test, deepen, reinterpret, and combine their skills. In their final year, students of the Bachelor in Video choose a specialization for their artistic and creative bachelor’s thesis: sound, cinematography, editing, or directing.

As of March 1, 2026, or by arrangement, they are seeking a Lecturer in Sound Design for Documentary and Essay Film (50–60%).

Application deadline: October 27, 2025 –> Job description and application
