XR DAY 2026: Immersion | Kunst | Performance

Am XR Day am Freitag, 10. April 2026 geben die Akademie für Darstellende Kunst Baden-Württemberg (ADK) und die Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg (FABW) auf dem gemeinsamen Campus Einblicke in die vielfältigen Anwendungsgebiete von eXtended Reality (XR). Impulsvorträge sowie Hands-on-experiences zu Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) und Mixed Reality (MR) demonstrieren das breite Spektrum dessen, was gegenwärtig mit nicht-linearen, Nutzer-gesteuerten XR-Technologien realisiert werden kann in Film, Theater, Medien, Kunst und Industrie – und wo neue Anwendungsfelder entstehen.

Ebenfalls beteiligt sind die beiden FABW-Institute Animationsinstitut sowie das frisch gegründete Carl Laemmle Institut für Forschung & Medieninnovation (CLI).

Am Vormittag stehen zahlreiche Impulsvorträge auf dem Programm, u. a. von Max Schmierer von b.Rex, Volker Helzle (Leiter des CLI), Diana Arellano (Leitende Dozentin Technical Directing am Animationsinstitut) sowie zahlreichen Alumni und Studierenden des Animationsinstituts.

Ab 14 Uhr können XR Experiences direkt vor Ort erlebt werden, so z. B. „EGON SCHIELE. Eine persönliche Begegnung – Eine Reise in das Wien um 1900“, „TREMENS. Live Performance und Virtuelle Realität kombiniert auf der Bühne“, „REVERSE TURING TEST. Wie KI-Systeme Menschen identifizieren können“, „MAIA im CyberLÄND. Filmakademie BW gründet Carl Laemmle Institut für Research & Media Innovation (CLI)

Die Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg GmbH schärft ihr Profil als international führende Ausbildungs- und Forschungsstätte für Film und Medien: Sie bündelt künftig in einem neu geschaffenen Carl Laemmle Institut (CLI) ihre Aktivitäten in den Bereichen künstlerisch-technologische Forschung, digitale Innovation und zukunftsweisende Produktionsmethoden.

Die Leitung der zentral in der Filmakademie verankerten Abteilung übernimmt Professor Volker Helzle, der bislang als langjähriger Impulsgeber am Animationsinstitut der FABW den Bereich Forschung und Entwicklung koordiniert hat. Unter seiner Führung soll das Institut als interdisziplinäre Plattform für angewandte Forschung und Entwicklung wirken sowie den Transfer zwischen Kunst, Wissenschaft und Industrie fördern.

Über das Carl Laemmle Institut (CLI):
Das Carl-Laemmle-Institut (CLI) bündelt die Forschungs- und Entwicklungsaktivitäten der Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg GmbH (FABW) in einer zentral verankerten Forschungs- und Entwicklungsabteilung und fungiert als zentrale Schnittstelle zwischen Ausbildung, angewandter Forschung und Industriekooperationen. Das Institut geht aus der bisherigen Forschungs- und Entwicklungsabteilung des Animationsinstituts der FABW hervor und entwickelt deren Arbeit strukturell, inhaltlich und strategisch weiter.

Die Forschungsfelder des Instituts umfassen unter anderem virtuelle Produktionsmethoden, Extended Reality, KI-gestützte Kreativ- und Produktionsprozesse, Cross-Innovation, neue Formen der Mensch-Maschine-Interaktion sowie nachhaltige und ressourcenschonende Produktionsmodelle für Film, Games und immersive Medien.

Mit der Namensgebung knüpft die FABW bewusst an das Vermächtnis des aus Baden-Württemberg stammenden Pioniers Carl Laemmle an. Er gründete 1912 in Los Angeles das Filmstudio Universal Pictures, spielte eine entscheidende Rolle beim Aufstieg Hollywoods und prägte maßgeblich die internationale Filmindustrie. Die Bezugnahme auf Laemmle steht für Innovationsfreude, visionären Unternehmergeist und den Mut, neue Strukturen für kreatives Arbeiten zu schaffen. Zugleich unterstreicht sie den Anspruch des Instituts, Film als kulturelle, technologische und gesellschaftliche Gestaltungskraft weiterzudenken – mit internationaler Perspektive und Offenheit für radikal neue Ideen.
